He originally went to see her ill-intentioned, but he couldn’t go through with his plan, and instead, mesmerized by her beauty, he took her as his wife. Eros is portrayed as a God who invokes love and desire in the hearts of gods and mortals alike, and yet, without even realizing it, he was struck by one of his own arrows at the mere sight of Psyche, his future wife. The love story of Eros is quite possibly one of the best in classical mythology and one that is filled with irony. Many describe Eros as the innate desire of human beings to transcend themselves through impelling an urge for union and interconnection and the drive to unite with the absolute truth. Eros was a celebrated god in classical antiquity, urging one to seek a higher form of beauty, truth, and goodness. Said to have been a primordial deity that emerged during the dawn of creation, Eros is also known as the God of procreation - the driving force behind the creation of new life in the universe. Eros, named after the Greek God of love, desire, and sex and the son of Ares (Mars) and Aphrodite (Venus), is a near-earth asteroid designated number 433 in the inner asteroid belt orbiting mostly between the orbits of Earth and Mars.
